Devin Hart Wins Distance Triple Crown With Second Sub-Nine 8-Lapper in 24 Hours By John Nepolitan of DyeStat Devin Hart of Point Pleasant Boro completed the New Jersey distance triple crown – winning the 3,200 meters to go with Meet of Champions titles in cross country and indoor track. But that might not have been the talented junior’s most significant feat. Hart ran sub-nine on back to back days on opposite coasts after taking a red-eye flight home Friday night after running 8:53.36 in the 2-mile at the Brooks PR Invitational. On Saturday, he ran 8:58.58 for 3,200 meters. Luis Peralta of Passaic, a junior, added the outdoor title to go along with his indoor crown and broke 1:50 for the first time. Earlier in the spring Peralta won the Dominican Republic National championship and his winning time of 1:49.63 is under the IAAF qualifying standard for the U20 Championships in Finland later this summer. The time also moves him to US#3 for 2018. Tiffany Bautista of Paramus Catholic, another junior, was an upset winner in the high jump, going 5-10 to defeating NBNO champion Jenna Rogers, who also cleared 5-10. Bautista had a full day. In the middle of the high jump competition, she anchored the Paramus Catholic girls to the 4x100 relay title, then added gold in the triple jump 40-2 and ended her day with third in the long jump with a PR 19-2.50. Three all-time state records were broken in the field events. Defending champion Nicholas Mirabelli (Rancocas Valley, senior) broke Curtis Thompson’s all-time state record to win the javelin with a US#2 throw of 227-10. Brielle Smith Oakcrest threw US#3 163-8 to win the girls javelin and she also broke the all-time state record. Hayley Horvath of Notre Dame cleared a new state record, 13-5.25, to win the pole vault. In the sprints, Franklin junior Mario Heslop won the boys 100 meters in 10.66 and the 400 in 47.05.
